About Me

I was raised outside Washington, D.C., took the scenic route through college (which in my case involved Mexico and Central America), and then started the work I’m doing now. I have family in the Midwest and on the East Coast, and friends in more places, sadly, than it is convenient to visit.

I keep this site largely because, as I start a career as a community organizer, I find a need to reflect and write on what I’m doing for a living, and why. So I make no claims (necessarily) to the originality of anything I post here. Its being here just means that it’s going through my mind.

As far as anonymity goes, I don’t mind people being able to figure out who I am from this site, but I do mind people being able to find this site merely from knowing my name. This is mainly because I envision wanting to be candid in this space about my work. See this post.

Anything else, I think, will have to wait until I’ve been doing this long enough to know what exactly is relevant and useful to say, and until some sort of identity for this project evolves.

A few housekeeping issues:

  1. “Power before Policy” is from Alinsky, Rules for Radicals
  2. All the content on this site belongs exclusively to me unless otherwise noted. Uses of this material which fall within the bounds of “fair use” are, well, fair, but I would still very much appreciate your letting me know to what use my work is being put, in what context, and by whom. If I decide at some point to worry about other, subtler ways of dealing with the issue of intellectual property, you, dear reader, will be the first to know.
  3. You can contact me at prosopopeya /at/ gmail.com.
  4. Those of you who can speak no Spanish will at some points find posts in Spanish. Don’t be frightened. Most entries are in English.

Hey, I’m from McLean, VA. I just read your post on being a prophet vs. being a fool and I think you’re awesome.
